<hi style=afpcap>All but one of the 45 B-50Bs ordered by the Air Force in 1947 were modified to RB-50B standard to perform strategic reconnaissance. The aircraft received four camera stations capable of housing nine cameras, along with various additional sensors and antennae. In addition the aircraft were fitted with two underwing fuel tanks to extend their range. The majority were upgraded to RB-50E, RB-50F, and RB-50G configuration with equipment tailored for specific intelligence gathering duties. Amongst the units which operated the type was the 55th SRW which was based at Forbes AFB, Kansas and Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico.</hi>
